YOUTH PROJECTS
We recognise the positive change that students and young adults can experience following involvement in leadership and personal skill development activities

The Ainger Public Speaking Awards
May 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017

The Ainger Awards are a public speaking competition for metropolitan high school students developed as an initiative of the Rotary Club of Richmond and the Ainger family in memory of past member Ern Ainger.  The aim of this project is to encourage students to develop the art of effective speaking and their presentation skills.

In 2014 we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Ainger Awards, celebrating the participation of over 1200 students in this wonderful program.

In the last 5 years the Rotary Club of Melbourne Park have increased their involvement in this project, and facilitate the organisation and running of the heats and final.

Mock Job Interviews
March 2014, 2015, 2016

In partnership with the Rotary Club of Richmond, members of our club helped out with the annual mock Job Interviewing program at Melbourne Girls College. It's a fantastic program teaches high school students interview skills, but also provides feedback on their resume and letter of application.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp
2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017

The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) is a week-long residential personal development program for young people aged 18 to 25, which focuses on yourself, leadership and community. The camp runs in late November/ early December every year.  We have proudly sponsored a participant to attend the 2012, 2013 & 2014 RYLA District 9800 camp, and have had members volunteer as facilitators for the camp. In 2010 we also organised a reunion for past RYLA-rians.

In November/December 2014, the Rotary Club of Melbourne Park was the host club for the RYLA camp & dinner.

Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) camp
2013, 2014, 2015

RYPEN is a weekend long camp for Year 10 and 11 students designed at developing their potential through a mixture of lecture style sessions and adventure-based learning. Its aim is to communicate to young people a series of ideas, problems and social experiences which will assist them in forming their own values and moral standards. We proudly sponsored a participant to attend a 2013 RYPEN camp, and have had several members volunteer as facilitators for the camp, leading groups of students and running sessions.

National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)
2013

NYSF is a program for talented Year 11 science students contemplating a career in the science or engineering. It introduces students to the myriad of careers open to them in science and engineering, and during the forum the students will work alongside experts in their respective fields as well as have access to industry and university laboratories that would not otherwise be open to students. NYSF runs in Canberra with an action packed twelve day program which is a life changing opportunity. We have proudly facilitated the participation of a student to attend NYSF in 2013.

Paper Planes Project
September 2010

RCMP organised a Paper Plane Project that was held at Richmond Housing Estate as part of the Moon Lantern Festival. This was an activity that engaged the children from the estate in making their own paper planes, and seeing how far they could fly. The day was a great success with much enjoyment had by the kids.
